Getting Ready for Junior High: Organizational Strategies and Study Skills for Students in Grades 4 - 6
Student and Parent Workshop
Preparation for junior high ideally begins long before grade 7. It is important for students in the upper elementary grades to develop the strategies and habits that will help them to successfully navigate the new academic and organizational demands that junior high will bring.
This student and parent workshop will introduce effective strategies for developing independent and efficient approaches to learning.
Topics to be addressed include:
- managing time
- goal-setting
- setting up a successful homework routine
This workshop will also introduce a variety of key study and memory strategies to help participants to learn how to prepare for tests. Participants will have the opportunity to practice strategies as the evening progresses.
This student and parent workshop is facilitated by Paige Feurer, B.Ed., M.Sc., Registered Psychologist. Paige provides assessment and consultation in the areas of learning and attention at the Calgary Learning Centre. In addition to her clinical work, she facilitates workshops for students, parents and teachers. Paige is also an experienced teacher and has taught at the elementary, junior high and senior high levels working mainly with students with learning and behavioural challenges.
